16th January – have fun getting active
Get active by doing something fun & different, maybe try something new… When they are thinking about starting exercising, patients often ask me “which exercise is the best for me to do, doctor?”. One answer I often give is “whichever you like doing most !” 😁 Because, if you enjoy what you are doing, you are much more likely to keep on doing it. 11th January – Go for a run
Go for a run (or get active anyway you like!) I was sooooooo pleased to see that the ice & snow had melted and it was safe enough to go out for a run – I am always impressed when I see people out running when it is snowy and icy, but I am way too much of a scaredy-cat and just end up looking like Bambi on ice. 9th January – Get outside in nature
🌱Spending time in nature has been shown to be an effective way to improve feelings of wellbeing. There is evidence that spending time in nature increases serotonin levels – which is commonly referred to as the “happy hormone”. 👩💻An article from 2019 suggested that if we spend more than 2hours a week out in nature, wellbeing scores are significantly improved. Interestingly, it doesn’t matter whether people get their 2hours a week all in one go, or in multiple smaller doses of being outside, the benefits are still just as good.
