“Why do we get butterflies mummy? I feel sick.” This was from my 10year old daughter, just before I dropped her off at school earlier this week, on the day of her music exam. I know how she felt, having struggled with anxiety for years, it still shows up every so often, especially if there’s something “big” happening. Butterflies are your body’s way of saying “I’m anxious” Over time, I’ve learned to accept and control my anxiety, but it has taken a lot of time, patience, some therapy and medication along the way. Social media stress
For those scrolling through endless filtered, curated pictures and feeds, saturated by idealised pictures, this enhanced vision of perfection becomes the norm as the brain is exposed to perfect images over and again. Once we start to perceive this as ‘normal’ it slips into being our expectations of ourselves, and we judge our unfiltered reality as “less than the normal”, rather than “less than the perfect filtered version”.
29th January – A random act of kindness
Fit in a random act of kindness everyday. This does not have to be a big gesture, or something that takes a lot of time or money. Some of the best random acts of kindness are those small thoughtful actions which show another person that someone cares. It’s not all about altruism and giving your time and effort to others., as both the giver and receiver of random acts of kindness experience positive psychological benefit, as both have increased feelings of social connection. Sometimes the recipient of an act of kindness may know the giver, but this is not necessary, an anonymous act of kindness can be just as good.…
